Dr Sam Kennard: A Full-Circle Honour at Western Sydney University
In June 2026, Kennards Self Storage CEO Sam Kennard returned to Western Sydney University - the same university where he earned his business degree more than three decades ago

For most of us, life is constantly changing. We move home, renovate, grow our businesses, travel, welcome new family members and, at times, help loved ones through significant life events. Change is part of life, and it's often during those moments that people find themselves needing storage.
Whatever brings someone through our doors, our role is simple: to make the storage part easy.
That's why this year's Canstar Blue recognition reflects something we are very proud of. Winning Australia's Most Satisfied Self Storage award for the third consecutive year, isn't simply about award. It reflects the experience our customers have with us during times that are often busy, uncertain and full of change.
At Kennards Self Storage, we've always believed people should Store with People who Care.
That care is reflected in hundreds of everyday interactions across our centres. It might be taking the time to understand what a customer actually needs instead of simply recommending a larger space. It might be helping someone choose the right unit, explaining how to access the centre, lending moving equipment or finding a solution when plans unexpectedly change.
“Sometimes it's something even simpler, recognising that the person standing in front of us may be having a difficult day and responding with patience, empathy and kindness.”
That isn't something you can script. It's part of our culture.
We trust our people to listen, solve problems and do what's right for the customer. Every customer is different, and every situation deserves a thoughtful response. Those thousands of small interactions across our network are what shape the experience customers remember.
We believe storage should be easy. So we continually look at every part of the customer experience and ask, "How can we make this simpler?"
Our customers aren't locked into lengthy contracts. If their needs change, they can move to a larger or smaller space. When they vacate, we credit back any unused rent, so they only pay for the time they use.
We provide complimentary moving equipment, flexible access hours at many of our centres and knowledgeable teams available seven days a week. Individually these may seem like practical features. Together they make the storage experience simpler, more flexible and less stressful.
Great customer service starts with great people. That's why we invest not only in our technology, security, training and processes, but also in creating an environment where our teams enjoy coming to work every day.
We believe that when people feel trusted, supported and empowered, they're better able to look after our customers.
Just as importantly, we never stop listening. Whether feedback comes through a conversation in one of our centres, an online review or a customer survey, it helps us improve.
Some of our best ideas have started with a simple question: "Why does it have to work this way?"
Questions like that encourage us to rethink processes, remove unnecessary complexity and continue improving the customer experience.
The Canstar Blue award isn't the only measure we value. Every day we're encouraged by the feedback our customers share, reflected in an average Google rating of 4.9 stars from more than 66,000 reviews. Together with recognition for our workplace culture, it reminds us that great customer experiences begin with great people.
We're incredibly grateful to every customer who has chosen Kennards Self Storage and to every team member who continues to earn that trust. Three consecutive Canstar Blue awards are something we're proud of, but they aren't a finish line. They're encouragement to keep listening, keep improving and keep finding better ways to serve our customers.
Because ultimately, our job isn't just to provide space.
It's to create space for change, and to make that change feel a little easier.
