“With the invaluable support of Kennards Self Storage and the ongoing donation of Kennards Boxes, the Mercy Foundation continues to help people who have experienced long term homelessness to settle into their new home.
Home in a Box was developed to provide a warm and welcoming home to people who have experienced chronic homelessness moving into permanent housing. Home in a Box contains brand new, high quality sheets, towels, pillows, a quilt, dinner set, cutlery, glasses, fry pan and saucepan, a toaster and a kettle and kitchenware. We source our products from MyHouse, Maxwell & Williams, Hospitality Online and other quality manufacturers.
This year we have delivered 31 boxes to people moving into their new home, which is almost twice as many as this time last year. This number includes 15 men, 16 women and 3 children.
One of the recipients was a 54 year old woman who was homeless 3 ½ years. Her worker emailed me to say that her client “ was super excited to receive the goods and couldn’t believe everything was brand new. She kept saying OMG OMG!!! It is lovely to see her set up in her own place and doing well. She is very appreciative for the support. This makes such a difference to her establishing a safe and homely environment after so many years of deprivation and hardship.”
We know that Home in a Box helps disadvantaged people to settle into their new home, and start afresh. Thank you for your support, we couldn’t do it without you”.
