Will The Real Slim Dusty Please Stand Up!

Ever wondered about what goes on in an old building? Or what the history of an old building is? There are so many buildings with historical significance that get knocked down and replaced with modern structures. We sometimes forget what we had.

On the corner of 2 Parramatta Road and Columbia Lane there is still an old building standing with some interesting History. The name Columbia Lane is the first clue.

A long History

The site was originally built in 1921 by Gold’s Hoisery Mills LTD. The building changed hands in 1924 when Gold’s Hoisery went bankrupt. The site was purchased in 1925 by Columbia Gramophone and used as a record pressing plant and recording Studio. They even renamed the lane to Columbia Lane in 1926. The Governor of the time Sir Dudley de Chair officially opened it on the 14th of October 1926.

In 1931 Columbia Gramophone Company was bought out by EMI. It was one of the only recording Studio that survived the great depression and was the only record producer in Australia

A Big Parramatta Bread Factory

Kennards Self Storage proudly supports the heritage and history of the local Parramatta community. Customers will recognise the little heritage cottage on the corner of Una Street, on the property that is our Parramatta Self Storage centre, 105 Wigram Street, Harris Park.

We are excited to be nearly complete with an adaptive reuse of the heritage cottage at this location. The building had suffered from several ills over the years and whilst expensive, it was important to our team at Kennards Storage to keep the building and where we have been able to, bring it back to its former glory. Our construction team are in the final throws of achieving DA permissions for the exterior of the cottage. Our internal rescue and improvements are nearly complete. We are aiming for the launch of this cottage and its exciting new use for sometime in August.

Running a Business During Covid

Running a small business is tough work in the best of times. We all remember that light bulb moment where the idea of your business is born.

You put your thoughts into action and before you know it you are signing Leases, coming up with a business name and in many cases ordering stock or buying the infrastructure you need to get started. You get some good clients and then you get a stream of income coming in.

With success comes some more cost. You will need to have space for your stock and deliveries. Having convenient easy access space to get your supplies sorted so that you can process orders quickly or get to job sites quickly is vitally important to running an efficient business so that you do not end up working 15 hours a day.

How To Win At Self Isolation

We have all been learning to live with Covid 19. Life is not the same as it was a year ago. We have one eye on getting on with our lives and another on “saving” our lives.

By now we have all learned how to stay Covid safe. Wash your hands regularly, keep 1.5 metres distance from others and limit these experiences to 15 minutes or less. Some of us are working from home and others have opened up their home to family returning to the “old bedroom”. The question is how do way stay healthy between the ears during this time?
